A large open deck on a newer house, stained and then photographed twice. The second frame exists because a stain is not one colour: direct sun lifts the grain and warms it, and the same boards out of the sun read deeper and more even.
People pick a stain off a card indoors and then live with it outside, where it spends most of its life in the second condition rather than the first.
